Re: JAZZmaster vs. JAGmaster body shapes Post by Mad-Mike » Sat Aug 08, 2009 7:05 am I think the Japanese Vista Series Jagmasters were just Jazzmaster bodies routed for a 24" scale neck, humbuckers, and Jazzmaster wiring minus the rhythm circuit, and a Stratocaster 6 point Trem. Jazzmaster have a bit more “butt” and the upper horn is more pronounced. Both guitars have the “off set waist” design, which is really comfortable to play.

The Mustang is another 24" scale, single coil guitar with multiple tone switches.

There are a number of more subtle differences, but basically the jaguar has a more percussive, somewhat jangly sound, whereas the jazzmaster is a somewhat more mellow-sounding guitar, I wouldn't necessarily say fatter. They both have a really characteristic (and somewhat difficult to set up) bridge/tailpiece. Although the trem unit and bridge on both the Jazzmaster and the Jaguar are the same, the Jag's shorter scale makes its trem far more sensitive, but with less tactile control. The Jaguar is a 24" (no 3/4" on these) scale, a Jazzmaster tremolo, with single coil p'ups and a number of tone switches. There also many models with Humbuckers and/or fixed bridges.
