Add beef stock powder, sugar and gelatin to the boiling water and stir for a minute until all the ingredients have dissolved. Cool your new agar mixture slightly for 10 minutes. The mixture needs to be still hot to avoid the gelatin setting in the saucepan and to prevent contamination from bacteria in the air.

If an antibiotic additive is needed in the medium recipe, that is added after the sterilized agar has cooled to 60oC to avoid denaturation.
Light the flame at the plate pouring station and dilute your antibiotic into your ~60 ℃ molten gel mix using sterile technique. Swirl the agar bottle to ensure even distribution of the antibiotic throughout the agar. Open one plate at a time next to the flame and begin pouring.
To make 20 agar plates you are going to need about 23 grams of your MEA mix. Weigh this out on your scales and mix with the 500ml of water in your flask or bottle.
