In an effort to create a third front against the Central Powers (Germany, Austria and Turkey) the Allies encouraged the Arab people in the Ottoman Empire to rise up against their Turkish overlords thus splitting the Central Powers war effort three ways. The parties subsequently divorced and an issue arose as to whether agreement was enforceable (she had, by this time, received an order for alimony).
